American Psychiatric Association Announces Next President-Elect

Antonio Bullon

A psychiatrist with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Antonio Bullon works as an attending psychiatrist for Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Maryland. In this position, he works with the geriatric population admitted to the unit and evaluates them for neuropsychiatric disorders. In order to stay current with changes made within the psychiatry field, Dr. Antonio Bullon maintains membership with the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

As an organization that works together to ensure humane care and treatment for those dealing with mental illness, the APA serves as the voice of modern psychiatry. Established in 1844, it strives to promote care, facilitate education and research, and advance the profession of psychiatry. The APA boasts 37,000 physician members who specialize in the research, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses.
In February 2017, the APA announced it had chosen Altha Stewart, MD, as its next president-elect. This marked the fourth consecutive woman and the first African-American woman to lead the organization. Dr. Stewart works as associate professor of psychiatry and director for the Center for Health in Justice Involved Youth at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
